Raytheon ELCAN makes the world's most demanding, high-precision optical and electronic systems for medical, defense and homeland security, commercial OEM, business, entertainment, and industrial customers. From a comprehensive suite of computerized optical design and CAD programs in the engineering departments to complete opto-mechanical, optic, electronic and opto-electronic testing capabilities, Raytheon ELCAN is equipped with the most modern equipment to undertake both large-volume production and prototype quantities for conventional, state-of-the-art and research programs.

Raytheon ELCAN is a one-stop, vertically integrated contract manufacturing partner, combining the resources and experience of its three global operations to provide a “one-stop” solution that reduces the total cost of ownership. Raytheon ELCAN's global operation has grown to a total of 500,000 square feet of space, custom-designed to provide a logically organized environment for precision manufacture.

Our optics manufacturing facilities, which provides precision spherical, aspherical and plano optics, windows, filters, mirrors and complex assemblies from 1mm to 200 mm diameter lenses in clinically clean surroundings, are central to our activities.

Performance improvements in present-day optics can be attributed to advances in coating technology, many of which originated with Raytheon ELCAN. Our coating facility engineers apply and test anti-reflecting, high-reflecting and hard-carbon protective coatings to every type of optical component, in-plant. Micro-processor-controlled thin film coating chambers produce complex multi-layer coatings for eye and sensor protection, beam splitting, electrical conductivity, and other performance enhancements.

Ultraprecision optics require ultraprecision mounts. At Raytheon ELCAN we have computer numerical control (CNC) machines and extensive diamond-machining capability equal to that of the finest specialty shop. We work in a wide range of materials, including plastics, on prototype and production quantities, to provide the most efficient match of mechanical precision, optical quality, weight and cost. Our R&D effort includes a constant search for precision and quality through new methods, materials and machinery.

Assembly of components takes place in climate-controlled clean rooms, using non-contact interferometers and alignment equipment to ensure accurate lens mounting, centering and focusing, mount integration and calibration.

Product development at Raytheon ELCAN is supported by advanced CAD technology. Many specialized computer tools have been designed by Raytheon ELCAN to overcome specific problems and are not available elsewhere. When we design a product for you, we give you the performance you need and a great deal more. We give you repeatable performance, time after time, in every unit that comes off our production lines. We give you responsive scheduling, consistent quality, absolute security – no broken promises. We can do this because our design teams and our manufacturing teams work closely together to plan Raytheon ELCAN quality into every aspect of our operation.

Mechanical Fabrication:
Continual advancements have taken place, not only in optical manufacturing techniques, but also in the mechanical fabrication area. Constantly evolving technology in machine tools and electronic controls has rendered most conventional machining obsolete. We routinely fabricate the most complex mechanical parts for a variety of products on multi-pallet, multi-tool CNC machines. This allows widely divergent parts to be processed in a single clamping operation, thereby allowing short runs and reduced inventories.

Electronics Manufacturing:
Raytheon ELCAN Málaga provides globally competitive electronic manufacturing services supported by other value-added services such as electronic design, component procurement, final product assembly and test.

Our engineers and technicians are dedicated to quality control. Statistical process control (SPC) and other computer-based systems are used to ensure constant improvement in the quality of work. In-plant testing facilities enable us to deliver products that meet all published performance and material specifications.

This huge array of capabilities allows the usage of different technologies in the same product. Raytheon ELCAN's microelectronics facility provides high quality electronic assemblies that can be seamlessly integrated with optical subsystems, for a complete customer solution. Vertical capability in optical, mechanical and electronic systems makes Raytheon ELCAN a highly efficient and streamlined “one-stop” global supplier for even the most complex mixed technology requirements.

Raytheon ELCAN is the world leader in the automated manufacture and testing of aspheres.

Optoelectronic and Optomechanical Assemblies:
The Optical Assembly Group staff is highly trained in lens mounting centration and optical alignment. Proprietary centering equipment is used to guarantee accuracy on each individual lens element when it is mounted into its cell. The capabilities of this group also include optoelectronic and optomechanical assembly, precision lens assembly, and the ability to perform fine mechanical alignment and assembly for complex instruments. For high volume production, automated alignment and test benches are available. These become dedicated for specific projects and are capable of fully computerized operation.

Raytheon ELCAN Optical Technologies develops and deploys display-system solutions for military and commercial applications.
